Tension
You pull on my heartstrings,
just like a cord.
You pull and pull,
then you cut them like a sword.
I fall to the ground,
right on my knees.
I looked up to you,
wanting to appease.
Your eyes are filled with hatred,
looking down upon me.
You look down and think of me as scum,
so you turn around to flee.
Now I am left here,
an empty, broken soul.
Nothing to feel, nothing to do,
your tension has taken its toll.
But over time,
I start to learn how to stand.
Then someone comes around,
and reaches out a hand.
I hesitate to reach out,
being knocked down before.
But you seem so loving,
then you slowly let go, more and more and more.
Now I am bruised,
cut, burnt, and shattered.
I’ve been left a mess,
all alone and tattered.
The tension you build,
you build with ease.
I have become a locked box,
but you have the keys.
You open up my heart,
to see it broken and torn.
I look at you and see a smile on your face,
not a sign of mourn.
You break the tension,
the tension in my heart.
And once the tension is broken,
I can now restart.
