Poem -

That house is on fire

That house is on fire

A girl can feel angry and worthless, hurt through to her core, but not want to make a fuss.
And so she will put on her makeup and wear her biggest smile,
And the rest of the world, will feel better.

No one likes to admit that they are failing,
Whether they are failing themselves or failing another.
No one likes to think they are the reason another person could feel such pain, yet we are all connected to each other, be that in passing, in friendship or in name.

Did you know she needed you?
Did you acknowledge her cry?
Did you tell her that you care?
Did you even try?

She is at her lowest point,
She can’t find a way back up.
The walls are closing in and she’s completely powerless.
She feels completely powerless.
Did you look her way?
Or Did you just assume someone else would?

She spends her life trying to help others,
To make them smile day by day,
To be there for whoever might need her
and to be whatever they might need.
She cares too much.
She loves too hard
And she feels too deep

And now she’s suffocating.

Where are you? Now that she’s calling
Where are you? Now that she’s shouting
Where are you? Now that she’s dying
She’s screaming.
She’s begging.
She needs you.
She needs help.
Doesn’t she deserve that?

No.
She doesn’t.
She’s worthless.
Useless.
She’s hurt and she’s angry,
She’s lashing out,
She just wants some attention,
She knows exactly what she is doing.

That’s what you think, isn’t it?

Tomorrow she will be better,
Tomorrow she will be laughing
Tomorrow she will put on her makeup and wear her smile.
Tomorrow she will be normal.

Look! Over there.
That house is on fire.
Someone is inside. She’s still inside.
She’s waving at the window.
Someone will help her.
Someone will extinguish the flames and vent the smoke.
Someone will save her.

I can’t save her. I’m too far away.
I’ve got a fire of my own.
I can’t save her.
She’s stopped waving anyway.
She will be fine.
Someone will go to her.
Someone will check on her.
Someone will pull her out.

Why did no one pull her out?
Where were you?
You could have saved her.
Why didn’t you try and save her?
Why didn’t you try?

Hi LAH, MH can destroy us. It's can be so difficult to know when to intervene sometimes though as depression by its very nature can make people isolate themselves. Powerful write ?

Absolutely agree with you. Sadly some people don’t ask for help for all kinds of reasons, and we don’t always know that they need it. But we should never just assume someone else is checking in on someone who has asked for help or shows signs that they may need it.

Thankyou for reading ❤️

Very dramatically depicted "the show of depression" -- real problem in general. Family, friends, society and government should come up a systematic plan., easy said than done unfortunately.
