the beacon light
alcatraz

the beacon light
steel grey sky
light and shadow
the wind silent
the fog in wait
across the bay
is that cold rock
from which there
was no safe escape
alone here
without you
the mist and chill
conspire
to bind me up
in memories
and set me down
on that far place
from there
the beacon light
warns of the shoals
from here it seems
to call me home

Hello Mark,
This to me fills my heart with grief. A forlorn emotion depicted in a creative imagery through your carefully crafted words. Isolated on that lonely rock, with nothing but the memories of that perfect love. Looking out at a place that looks so far away, yet feels like home. As if the light keeps glinting on that once treasured place, you can’t quite now reach. Being widowed I have sat on that rock many times. So this truly moved me to read
Many thanks for sharing your wonderful writing

thank you very much Gwen.
Oh Mark...again...this is stunning!!
I'm in the moment...in the atmosphere here musing about love life loss. You have a talent lovely man x
Well I have to agree with all that's been said so far! This is such an atmospheric write which conjures a deep sadness. Brilliant x
There is always one, always one.
Who enters one's thought regardless how old those who reminisce shall become or wherever they are in the world.
That lost love memory will never dissipate, never leave one's warm dreams and is destined to never be forgotten.
A bittersweet forlorn write indeed, but beautifully presented throughout.
Thank you Mark for sharing and Full honours bestowed and richly deserving .
Thank you very much Shaun.
I've been there .. (only on a paid visit of course) but I know how chilling it it must have been for those who were forced to call it their home .. excellent ink if you don't mind me saying sir .. Neville
