Poem -

the burning kind

the burning kind

the only love i’ve ever known is the burning kind,
i’ve lived in the flames for what feels like eternity
and i’ve learned to be content with that
so how is it that you do it?
that thing
the thing that makes the anger inside of me sizzle, before dying out
that thing that terrifies me
you turn something as hard as me into a stream
i spark & you put me out, just like that.
how do you do that?
why do you do that?
you stripped away every wall i had perfectly crafted to protect myself & left me naked,
vulnerable.
i was content before you
but now i don’t know if i could ever live without you again.
the mere thought of you leaving makes my bones ache
