the crevices of life

It came upon a winter’s night
It stayed until the morn’
The wattle dropping from the trees
And welcomed in the dawn
It came upon a summer’s day
It rested on the beach
A twig – so far away it seemed
Too far away to reach
To reach for what – eternally
Tomorrow to become
To prance and dance whilst gambolling
The artistry of one
Yet what of others left behind
Will they abide by thee
And wrap emotive arms around
Mimosa – loved by me
And what of those well carried on
Must they be part of me
And build a life less borrowed by
Those holier than thee
As I sleep with silent critters
In the crevices of life
Like a locked door opening wide
To welcome sparse and rife
I wake to silky wattle tree
Leaves crying in the dust
Suddenly one feels now – yes now
Is my eternal must
For anything and everything
That delves beneath the light
And builds a sense of unbeknown
And stares at summer’s sight
The sight of what – the light of whom
(picking leaves as if a crumb)
The crevices of life – behold
Those crevices become
Something they were not before
A butterfly transformed
That sends away beyond the day
And closer to the storm
Of thunder, lightning, wherewithal
We suffer through upset
A distant yellow flower falls
The season’s change – and yet...
