The Empire Strikes Back

The Empire Strikes Back

The Greeks were great rulers but time forgets,
the only real reminders left are launderettes,
the Romans bequeathed the remains of stone walls,
every dynasty has something until power falls.

The Persians dominance was beyond belief,
a matter of course but eastern time was a thief,
the Mongolians never really had a chance,
and unlikely to sustain any grand entrance.

Now, whether you like it or not, Brits were best,
much maligned - what do you expect of any conquest,
English spoken worldwide, street names everywhere,
they are the only ones with time to stand and stare.

The Scots want independence, but with the failure of talks,
when they march on Westminster, we'll be ready with pitchforks.
