Poem -

The fading ember

Starlight glints off the cold steel
As it lies forgotten in the wood
As broken and rusted as the girl
who dropped it where she stood

Her fingertips cold
No warmth to be found
She perishes in the bitter winds
her body casts roots in the ground

Moans of a lost love
Torments the silence
The birds are restless now
the ravens are violent

As the whispers of an untold sacrifice
Echo through the trees
Of a love unfounded
Of a girl brought to her knees

Her life, her torment
abandoned without regret
now her prison of agony
cages a restless spirit

But sunlight dares to creep in
Golden rays, drops of life force
Coaxing the flowers from their hibernation
To soothe her agony and remorse

Her prince died alone
His arms were left empty
He turned his back
Creating the agony

The roots of love grow deep
Her spirit is now grounded
A forest grew from the heart of a girl
with a love unfounded.
