The Fume of Sighs

meditation on a theme by Shakespeare
…for Cherie Sumner; whose poem “Love Lessons from Romeo and Juliet” inspired these lines
Two families joined in steel-determined hate
{Entwined in secret by more tender moves}
Would render more than Chorus could relate
or some two hours’ business ever proves.
A plague consuming all before its path
Which fells by tender blade or hemlock cold
It lays a withering hand upon the youth
And lengthens silken shadows for the old.
This fever in the blood which all-consumes
And lives on Lovers’ thieving grasping sighs
Cannot sustain on thinning (gasping) fumes
But burns through blood ~ until the body dies.
In silent (tender) sepulchre it reigns
Till spark ignites the fever once again.

Thank you my darling.
And for the record, you've written a few great sonnets yourself over the last while.

My Dear Friend Jason,
.
As in Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet", where pure love could find no joy;
We have the true life tale in America, of the "Hatfields and the McCoys"!
The family feuds are known to all, passed down from kin to kin;
Exploding with innocent romance, between the two clans did begin!
.
You've inspired me to recreate it, in an ode of tragedy;
About the beautiful young lovers, destroyed by their families!
I'll be posting it tomorrow, but sent out this little preview;
To my dear friend "Brilliant Jason", my deepest thanks to you!
.
Peace and Love,
Larry xxx
Another beautiful one from the Master of Sonnets...When it comes to Sonnet...no one does it better!
Thank you so much, Rose.
(Sorry for the delayed reply...I've been a little busy)
