The guilt in the thunder.

Sudden thunder and a panic of lightning over my town,
clouds so low, they wanna push me down,
rain on my roof, talks of her presence,
on bended knees, I'm a begging peasant,
a rush of wind feels like her hair stroking my neck,
a crack of thunder and I'm a disgraced wreck,
a shock of lightning and I see her there,
her impassioned eyes hold me in her glare.
Our love was celebrated in the fading echoes,
of those cobble stoned streets,
your lapis lazuli eyes were a conversation piece,
we kissed and danced in lush verdant meadows,
holding hands, we laughed in the warm summer rain,
never giving words to the uninvited pain,
the love we had, never got beyond the church door,
only when complete, you always swore,
I sit within the shade of a golden palm tree,
one and one is two,
but we could never make a three,
upon your head, I once placed a crown,
your body refused an heir to my throne.
Shameful thunder and abandoned lightning in my town,
so much burdensome rain, I'm gonna drown,
you got the spoon and I got the prize,
for her, my love blossomed,
when giving eyes flashed a promise, I was charmed,
but you stood there, wide eyed and surprised,
I closed the gate to the bridge,
before you could push me off the ledge,
defeated tears fell into your glass of chardonnay,
a thousand balmy nights of ecstasy,
a thousand days of cold dismay,
the shade of the golden palm tree,
was always waiting for me,
millers wheel could not grind the wheat,
as the thunder and lightning leaves my street.
