The Maco Lights

Back long long ago
Joe Baldwin worked for the railway
This much I do know
Near the town of Maco as the story goes
He was a conductor by trade
Riding in the back of the train
In around 1867 or so
Joe was working on a rainy night
When he noticed one of the cars
Had become detached from the others below
Waving frantically at the on coming train
He sprang to see what he could do
With his lantern in hand
He motioned out the train for it to stop
For old Joe it was much too late
The train never saw him
On this dark and rainy night
He lost his head in plain sight
Every since that fateful night
Starting out late at night
In the distance
You see this ghostly glow
Coming up the railway tracks
Most say old Joe has his lantern
Looking out for his missing head
Maybe one day you should visit Maco
Wait till late at night park close
To the railway tracks
If you have the nerves and the gusto
And no fear to believe what you see is real
You may just see old Joe waving his lantern to just say hello

Dear Rock,
I love your narrative about the legend of Old Joe Baldwin.
Is this something you created, or is there really a folk tale in Maco?
Irregardless, thumbs up to a great write.
Love,

Hey Larry , this actually a real ghost story in Maco North Carolina. My dad and his cousin went out to see it many years ago. They actually saw it coming up the tracks before they took off and left . Hope you are well , rock
