The One Who Never Wanted

Upon my palm, I see crosses fall
And the sun blistered skin of desert dirt
As blood pours not from the heavens
But from all it takes to attain
Through the aridity of altruistic thirst
And seldom could I kill my conflictions
Or allow the intimate and inanimate as one
For every condemnation, there is a witness
To this dichotomous terrene that I belong
Even agony could not dispel
The ideations of illusion
When blurred reflections bore regret
Through an insidious past
And its conscious intrusion
Cleansed of sight, though not of debt
I need not travel this beguiling world
Nor have a moment in the limelight
A moment in the sun
I need not be acknowledged
Or leave a legacy when I'm gone
Yet I paved the path that no one follows
Until my legs were weary
And no longer could I walk on
Although the spirit's timeless
Everything it touches and collides with is finite
And along the way, you may find
That not all is set and not all is finalised
As you clock in for another day's unholy breath
The monolith will mortalise
The name you bear
And the anthracite burn out
Before it burns within again
Imploring a conscience of clarity
While death dries the weary bones
Of will you wish were never free
For I wandered the heart of this plain alone
And conquered the past, only to betray the throne
When the forest I braved was brimmed with stone
Until I lost my reflection there within
