The pain within our veins

It still remains silent
The broken history of  our trauma seeded into the roots of our youth
From men who we called fathers
Neighbors and lovers
To the sketches of shadows that crept around in our minds
That haunt us each night
As we close our eyes
And try to catch onto a dream
As we run from our nightmares
From the in-between
The cast of their shadows lurk through our minds
For all of the time
Without a reason simply to remind you
You can never put this behind you
It will always be tugging and poking you
Begging you to feel it
To feel it over and over and over again
As you wake up in a cold sweat clutching the pillow
That you thought was a knife
Close to your chest
Crying a storm
That cannot be ignored
It comes to mind once again
The man in shadows will always be around the corner
He will always be in the dark corner of your room
Staring silently quietly
And undoubtedly
He’ll put his finger to his lip and whisper in a raspy,
Horrifying voice,
“Shhh”
ANd you wake up
Abruptly and roughly you feel the shivers on your neck
The tears streaming down your eyes
And you look at your lover whos lying beside you
Or you look at the stuffed animal or pillow
And sign
You try to pull yourself together
Because you-you don’t want to be weak again
You don’t want anyone to see you like this
You wanna be safe
And for you
Safety means strength
Which you have,
But it is no use
For the demons in your mind
Beg you to hide
So they can lurk in each corner
With bright eyes and crooked heads
They cry like you
They smile at you
And they wait
They wait
Till you try to run from them
So they can sharpen their claws
And cause you to come to a halt
They don’t beg you to stop
They nail your feet to the ground
And your arms to the side
So you can escape
But you won't
They stand around you with no hesitation to show you their intentions
They as they begin to feast on your fears
And on your pain
Leaving you emptier than he did.
That there was no hope
Only treason
For whatever reason
He chose your room
He chose to scar you for life
Without batting an eye for it was what he wanted
And what he believed he needed
Even though he knew how’d it affect you
As you toss and turn at night
And don't know which side to lay
