The tree of memories.

A red maple tree stands alone,
in the middle of a blue green buffalo grass field,
near where I live,
some grey squirrels live in the red maple tree,
and they scurry and scamper,
all around the leafy red maple tree,
like the way squirrels do.
From my living room window,
I often gaze at the beautiful tall red leafy tree,
most people walk casually and indifferently,
beyond the lonely tree,
surrounded by the blue green buffalo grass,
but some people,
sit under the canopy of the leafy red tree,
and enjoy the cool shade the canopy provides,
sometimes, on gentle summer days,
people will have a picnic under the branches,
in the shade of the red maple tree,
the tree is happy when it has company.
At the end of summer and early fall,
the tree will drop its samara seeds,
and they gracefully twirl and twist,
onto the blue green buffalo grass,
and excited children will pick them up,
and throw them back up in the air,
gleefully watching them spin and spin.
Sometimes, to my amusement,
people with long hair and sandals,
will wrap their arms around the tree,
and say how much they love the tree,
dog walkers will let their dogs,
leave their scent on the tree,
and sometimes, the dog walkers,
will leave their scent on the red maple tree too,
the tree doesn't like this.
One Sunday morning in the Fall,
I saw a small boy,
flying a white triangular kite with a black cross,
the boy was running around the tree,
being chased by the black crossed kite,
the kite and the line got caught,
in the low branches of the tree,
which nobly stands amid the blue green buffalo grass.
I went over to the red maple tree with the dangling kite,
and I was met by a local old timer,
we stared at the triangular white kite with the black cross,
and he said to me in a rich southern drawl,
"Reminds me of the strange fruit that used to hang there".
