Poem -

The true gift

I wanted to give you a gift words can't explain
Instead I was forced to give you a gift wrapped in paper, so plain
Because I don't think you're old enough to understand all I want to say
I'll save it for when you're older another day
I wanted to let you know my love for you is true
It is not a love you can fake nor misconstrue
And I wanted you to know I want you to have a better life than what mine once was
I want you to live a righteous life and avoid all the fuss
Because the media will give you ideas you should be one way
But God says come as you are, do the right thing
And I know as you get older life gets harderĀ
But travel the terrain
Because it's worth it after the rain
And I know the pain words can have as you're bullied about your weight
But just remember God holds your fate
He knows you're special and He knows you're worth while
So when those tears begin to pile
Remember you are loved
I've watched you mature so such and you'll mature even more
And you'll grow to be a beautiful woman, I'm sure
And I'll watch you graduate school and do great things
But meanwhile you'll experience pain and pangs
And as much as I want to I can't save you from life's pain
Life will continue to be a strain
But as we both grow older I'll say a prayer that you'll be strong and stay aware
Keep your mind and heart on God and you won't go wrong
He will keep you healthy and strong
But for now remain sweet and innocent as you are
Keep you're heart of gold and do God's will
He will always keep you fulfilled
Grow to be great as we all pray you will
You're a wonderful girl obey your mom and dad
Love you and don't try to grow up too fast
