"There's Hope for Us"

"Escaping reality,
one substance,
at a time,
I used to think,
that was okay,
it was all well and fine,
until I almost died from using,
to my shock and my surpise,
then I started digging,
deep into me,
and found so many lies.

Those drugs,
insulted my health,
and my very soul,
and made this cavernous place,
in my chest,
a massive hole,
where God should be present,
but He wasn't there,
and after all I had my fix,
so why should I really care?

I turned my back on God,
but He never,
turned His Back on me,
and when I pleaded,
that night I almost died,
on the ground,
He set me free.
I gave Him my battle,
He fights it in my stead,
and I know if I didn't reach out,
I surely would be dead.

This priceless knowledge,
of my spiritual awakening,
could be the key,
to us as addicts,
to stop forsaking Our Protector,
who we thought was the greatest neglector,
for I am living proof,
that God is the way and the truth,
and if I can change,
there is hope for you as well,
so come alive,
you can survive,
and live to tell the tale."
