They Gave Me Matches

They Gave Me Matches

Baby I could light my fire, in the desert,
see things around me, cook my food, be alert,
didn't need to rub those two sticks together,
at least no interruption from the weather.

But this wasn't Earth, it was actually Mars,
no air, but the fire didn't explode the avatars;
a US lander on one side, Chinese on the other,
any arguments, maybe I'll just dive for cover.

Did I see a discarded hamburger wrapper,
or was it a greasy Chinese takeaway paper?
Disgraceful, fish eating plastic on Earth,
no values, don't know what they're worth.

I was offered a lift - American and Chinese gone,
no problem, Russians came over the horizon.

Hey TERRY!!......I can almost see the rovers and landers on Mars as I read your charmingly compelling sonnet here today....I like that you added the other superpowers into the mix......and how well you used descriptively detailed phrasing to paint a VERY compelling portrait of humanity's potential!!.....PINNED!!.....a fine sense of rhythm and timing in the crafting of your rhyme scheme!......well done dear poet sister!!.....LOVE & ROCKETS!!......T xo  : )
