They Said Drink and Drugs Were to Blame

You go to a club to have a good drink
Tonightโs the night youโll pull, you think!
Some people at the bar are happy to talk
But some are just waiting for drinks to be bought
Many drinks later, everybody gets loud
And you are mingling amongst the crowd
There are girls on the dance floor, waiting to be asked
Whom do you smile at? Whom do you pass?
Suddenly the mood turns very blue
People scatter and bouncers run through
All you wanted was a fun filled night
But someone too drunk, has caused a fight
You began to wonder what was going on
You heard a girl scream heโs done nothing wrong
Wondering who just turned out the lights
Not even knowing you were in the fight
Now the police are at your front door
Your mum has collapsed on to the hall floor
The policeman said I am sorry your son has diedโ
It was the first time your father had ever cried
He wanted answers, he needed to know why
What happened to his son, why did he die?
The police said their son had been hit on his head
Fracturing his skull, he internally bled
They said drink and drugs were to blame
Saying the youth of today is all the same
They blamed society; the media, all the pubs and clubs
The low cost of alcohol and the use of drugs
All you had wanted was a drink and some fun
But your life was cut short now itโs over and done
You thought it was safe to get out of your head
But you were the one who ended up dead
