This House

This House

This house we live, is built of more than stone
It has a special purpose of its own.
The roof above protects the heads below
Wooden floors allow little feet to grow.
Tall white windows illuminating gloom
of the strong walls dividing every room.
Doors that lock when the world needs kept at bay.
Open doors when you want to face the day
Cupboards filled with memories and clutterΒ
A place to eat hard earned bread and butter.
A table to sit and put the world right
Curtains to cover darkness of night.
Warmth of a fire to keep out the the cold
A stable foundation, let's us grow old.
This house we live, is built of more than stone.
Its special purpose is that it's our home.

Hi Tony, I'm really glad you and your friend enjoyed this, say hi from me! ...there was a poem that was on my parents kitchen wall when I was young and I've tried for years to remember it. its lost to time I think, I've triedΒ  to find it online without success, but the flow and theme of the poem was similar to what I've written (well I think it is) I've just changed the words HahaΒ Β
you are very kind, thank you

Being Me

Lorna, this is beautiful. I always think that though the house is made of brick or stone this building makes a home and home is built with love. Your poem speaks clearly with a lovely flow and conveys a sentiment we all hold dear. A fab poem x

Hi Lorna, I believe this to be one sweet read. You have captured the heart of family and that sanctuary that comes with having a loving home. I enjoyed how you took the physical aspect of a house, then transcended it into the very heart of what roots β€œfamily” and that sense of home. Just lovely to read. Vivid in its deliveryΒ

My Dear Lorna,

Your lovely words sum up so completely the nucleus of peoples lives, our homes, which shelter and protect us from the outside world.Β  Β

To quote an adage
Be it ever so humble
There's no place like home.

All my love,

Such a beautiful and flowing write that encapsulates home and family in equal measure.
And love with all the good and memories it can bestow from it's foundations up, is to be found throughout in every niche, nook and cranny.
Another great write Lorna and enjoyed your captivating poem very much.
Thank you for writing something warm and welcoming and with more than a touch of poetry class on display. x.
