Through the Wired Fence

Through the Wired Fence

Through the wired fence
I see freedom that I wish I had
Freedom that once was mine
Until I was brought upon this  trapped land

I see endless grasses
Where in my dreams I could run
I could run as far the grass would take me
Maybe I could even touch the sun

The guards’ tricks are worthless now.
We know what happened to the others
They’re not free like they claim
They’re gone with their siblings and mothers

I look at my hands on the wire
I see the little scabs left from when I wouldn’t let go
I didn’t understand the way things worked then.
These little things I just didn’t know.

Through the wired fence
Is where I look to every day
Searching for my brother even though
He’s in another camp further away

I hope that somewhere out there
That my brother is looking through
A wired fence, and not gone
Trying to find me too
