Time

Time

When I was younger, the ticking of the clock was so prevalent;
like the sun in my eyes or the wind in my hair.
At night I would hear that sound from three rooms away -
Tick-tock. Tick-tock. Tick-tock.
I would stay awake for hours.
Eyes closed, breath shallow.
Every thought, every whisper, every shadow moved to the beat of time.
But only at night.
I'm older now, and I long to hear that sound.
The sound of silence, the ticking of the clock, the passing of time.
That sound - symbolic to me of youth, peace, hope and the feeling that there is all the time in the world.
But I've found that the older I get, the more I stop living and the clock has stopped ticking.
Or I can no longer hear it.
Yet time moves faster.
And soon it will be the end.

I like Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd....esp. the songs Money and Time.    For me,  when I have time,  I don't have money; and when I have money, I don't have time.   I do appreciate each day, the small blessings b/c it goes quickly.

I loved these lines-
"When I was younger, the ticking of the clock was so prevalent;
like the sun in my eyes or the wind in my hair"
"But I've found that the older I get, the more I stop living and the clock has stopped ticking"
I love your style of writing. Your well thought out words-  pull at the heart and really beautifully give articulation and feeling. Very nicely done!
