TRANSIENT FRIENDSHIPS

Why do I bother
And why haven't I learned
That no-one gives a damn
About friendships in the long run?

Well I care but inevitably
People p*ss off
And friendships
And scenarios fade:
Sometimes gradually

As people lose interest-
And sometimes abruptly
As an era comes to an end
Why do I bother

To care about anything
Or anybody?
When nothing lasts
Scenarios fade

And people p*ss off.
It's all meaningless to others
And I'm a fool
To believe that friendships
Are anything more than transient fads.

All that's left for me
Long- term
Are fond memories
And I think of people
"You'll disappear from my life.

You will,
Though maybe I'll see you
At the odd wedding
Or the occasional funeral".
