UNDER SIEGE BY COVID-19

It's in the air we breathe
The world as we know it is under siege
As far we know, it started by the choices of men
Now for our lives we fend
While countless numbers of individuals
Have already embraced their end
A plague that challenges
The very existence of man
We are forced to distance ourselves
From our closest friends
Six feet apart and no more warm embrace
Weary some hand washing
And compelled to hide behind N95 masks
A new outline of our faces
Only a few weeks ago
Food was in abundance
Medication and toiletries were plenty
Now supermarkets shelves are naked
They are totally empty
Our children's education is in recess
And the number of those tested positive
Grows every time the doctors completes their test
Stock market plunges without the ability to swim
Interest rates are almost zero
But investors still cannot win
No one knows where we go from here
But one thing is for sure
Everyone shivers with fear
But the Lord has promised
To destroy this world by fire my friends
So keep the faith
Covid-19
Is not the end.

Hello Wilford...
The shelves are empty here too...
Not easy when there's only 1 grocery store...
I heard on the news something about a taste of Socialism...
Just another game they play for population control to challenge the weak and test the others...
We have seen it many times in many different forms...
Fear not!
Something is going to get all of us sometime...
Stock Markets are down, people are now out of jobs and all when an Election hasn't happened yet...
It's been said China is very intelligent they can do it on purpose or by accident and no one is held accountable...
We can't fool ourselves and say this is the worst we will face in our lifetime...
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change
Courage to change the things I can
And the Wisdom to know the difference
Great write!
Thank you for sharing...
God bless and keep you safe!
Hugs...

Thank you my dear friend sparrowsong..
Your kindness is very much appreciated.
Very deep and compelling piece my friend. The battle is real. Stay safe.
Many thanks Tony Garon.
Blessings..
Extremely well written, I can see why it was nominated! Good work.
What I liked about your poem is that you touch on all the elements of this pandemic. The last line gave me goosebumps!
I don't think the world is going to end quite yet, we are an advancing species, still evolving, still learning, this may be the test that God has granted us all; while he makes room in Heaven or in the Plains as our friend calls it, we will learn how to eliminate this virus -- we have learned from the past.
No one could have saw this coming (but) of course, we did see it happening in Italy and didn't act soon enough in my opinion. I think the entire world should be on lock down and what they need to produce is face mask and gloves for the world, send them to everyone by postal mail make sure we can shop protected. I think the virus will be in the very stores that are left open to all us us to keep stocked up. Oh, I'm stressing today because of it all. Thank you for sharing your poem.
Favorite lines:
We can worry all of our life about the end but in the end -- is when we will probably never know what is happening. That is my hope. Fear causes people to panic -- shelves to empty, hunger to spread.
Thank you for sharing your poem.
Stay healthy and keep writing!
My dear katina..
Thank you so much for your wonderful comments and encouragement..
As a healthcare worker for the past 27 years, I have seen and experienced a lot.
from working 5 years in the ER to 7 years in the Operating-room as a housekeeper in 2 hospitals.. But to be honest with you, my new job of about 3 years scares me the most..
Long term care facilities are really being hit hard with this Covid 19. We have just experienced our first death from the disease.. and at least one more positive cases, with a few suspects.. our merger staffing is already showing symptoms with lots of call outs..
We are scared! As healthcare workers.. We do not have proper protective equipment, supervision that makes sense, and controlled isolation for those that can be easily affected by this phantom disease..
Every day I asked myself, do I really want to go in today, and no expose myself to this Ninja like enemy.. But for the love of people and job, I roll out of bed, and close my apartment door behind me.
please!! Please!! Pray for us.... All healthcare workers.. because we are scared.
