URBANA

URBANA

February
        winter
               twenty-five degrees

An orange sun is
        rising over the steamy roofs
                 of NYC

Listening to the start of
        Jarrett's Koln Concert
makes it seem like a scene from Serpico

Once again......void of sleep.......without rest........
and like the left over piss and cum in tenement hallways
                 I'm completely spent

I turn and glance out my bedroom window
            the dreadlocked Egyptian king
                   is waiting again

Tell me, does the pain give you your beauty?.......I really need to know
         so does it........handsome fucker?
'cause it never gave ME a God damn thing

He never answers......but just watches as she passes
pushing her shopping cart by buildings where they seek fortunes
                  from Butterflies and Iron Condors

But for her.....
       a dollar coupon
             is a blissful gain

Why are we dead
      when so high?

And alive
       when so low?

Fuck you Icarus,
       please tell me........
or is there a reason I should not know?
