"We Closed the Lid"

"We used to view drugs and alcohol,
as our religion.
We went to them with every decision,
that we tried to make.
Only to find,
that one day,
we would eventually break,
and in that breaking,
was a moment of clarity,
that is too much,
for us to take, without God,
so we escaped reality.

Starting The Vicious Cycle,
over anew,
that clarity was too frightening.
It was something,
we dare not persue,
and as this happened,
time and time again,
we slowly lost,
our loved ones and friends.
It was too unbearable,
to see us like this,
too hard and painful for most,
to deal with that utter helplessness.

They prayed so hard,
for those moments of clarity.
Would it be this time,
that we get it?
Most of us would just forget it,
but we at these tables,
clung on for dear life,
and pleaded to God,
to ease our worry and strife,
and thank You God,
for You graciously did,
and that chapter of our life ended.
We closed the lid."
