Where Men Have Walked

Where Men Have Walked

My legs be strong, for I have walked these trails, where men have died

Where my ribs gave way the mighty beast of wrath, from every path

I found the weak, the baby bird newly hatched from its shell, I held it in my hand

Where the waters flow, I swam across, my feet touched land, and printed in the sand

The fossils of life, once living things, now just lay, lost, and even buried

Where men have walked, I planted seeds for crops, then later the harvest

The nights grew cold, but we kept warm by the fire flames, and the deer hides

On our backs, we chanted the eve until dawn, for a long lasting walk among our people

Where Cherokee can only know the true feeling of the earth beneath
