Whispers

Whispers

All around me
My oppressors mock
They talk so loud
Invading my thoughts.
They say I'm silent
Yet if they'd just listen
For a moment
They would hear my whisper.
Two ears and one mouth
Listen twice as much,
That's what someone
Once told me.
How true that saying is.
Listen to what I say
I am so tired of the lies
I don't know what to believe anymore.
They try to tell me who I am.
So they want to overthrow me?
Do not arouse my anger.
I'm like a phoenix ready to soar
Perhaps global warming is a result
I feel like I could burn the world
When I'm angry and fed up.
I cry myself to sleep
Then get lost in my thoughts.
In the morning I feel better
Like a star has healed me by night
So my mercies can be new every morning.
They say no one should ever go to bed sad
Sleep is my medicine
Dreams are my escape.
I am grateful for what I have
I just wish I hadn't eaten from that tree.
