Who Said I Can’t Learn New Tricks

I am there for you every morning every night
Wagging my tail just to show off
Barking just so you think I am smart
Begging for some kind of exercise
Sitting my leash gripped tight in my teeth 
The time comes when duty calls
Lounging what I do best laying across your bed with my head on
your pillow
Putting my breath and my wet nose print on your car window
Listening to you when you complain of your work day
Playing frisbee and ball sports oh and watching football games on TV
When you need a friend I am always there you want to take a walk
You can lean on me when your down anytime you want to talk
I even let your girlfriend dress me up in silly costumes at Halloween
I know how to chase three squirrels at a time around the tree
I am a great watch dog I watch for the neighbors cat to catch me off guard
I have only run away once to follow a jogger who looked just like you
I can shake hands roll over play dead and just recently I sing
Who says you can’t teach old dogs new tricks?
