Wilma The Philippines Kitten

Wilma The Philippines Kitten

Wilma was just a tiny Kitten
Alone and fending for herself
No food for her provided
For her, no recognition!

She trundled streets and alleyways
But, no offer of a morsel
Trodden on, and kicked aside
Only misery befell her each day!

Her once, soft and innocent face
Now smothered with sores and scabs
Sunken eyes and feeble cries
No beauty in death; no grace!

To her rescue, a charity came
Sustenance, she was given at last
Cuddles, warmth and a comfy bed
And someone to call her by name.

Wilma did not ask to be born
And was reliant on us to give of our love
Her skeletal body could not survive
In the end, her life was torn!

Beautiful is the Country of Wilma’s Birth
And draws us to its sun-kissed earth
But ...... what good is beauty
When a country has no worth!

Dear Wilma,

We know exactly what your beautiful poem is illustrating.  We are in the process of saving the second kitty, that was abandoned and found the safety of our apartments ground floor front porch.  The first one, was with us for seven weeks, before we were able to get an appointment at the Humane Society, a no-kill shelter.  She was adopted within 10 days.  This one has an appointment for January 2nd, and we hope she has the same good fortune.  My wife is allergic to cats, so they have to stay on our porch.  We have a house we built for them, and a space heater that runs 24/7.  Plus, we feed them several times a day.  People who abandon these poor little kitties, should face heavy penalties.

Peace and Love,
Larry xxx

Hi Larry

Thank you for your reply to my poem, 'Wilma, The Philippines Kitten'. Yes, it is terrible the way some animals are treated, but it is good to know that there are many people like you out there who really care for animals and do their bit in life, even in cases of immense difficulty, they find a way to give love and care to these deserving kitties. It hasn't stopped you, even though your wife is allergic to cats; you have found a way of caring for these poor unfortunate souls - yours, now are very lucky, as you have given them food and shelter, and love!

It prompted me to write a poem for poor little 'Wilma', because she was a tiny innocent kitty who had suffered so much, but I guess animals are treated badly in the Philippines. It was a charity (Network for Animals ) that I donate to each month that came to this poor kitty's rescue, but they tried hard to save her, but sadly she didn't make it. You can find her story on the Internet.

Yes, the animal shelter, Humane Society are a very good rescue home. I also regularly donate to 'Humane Society International' who are often out in Asia rescuing dogs and cats from the meat farms - they have done such amazing work, and flown many dogs to a shelter in Canada before they are finally re-homed.

Thank you for being so caring to animals Larry. I live in the UK and we do have some problems of cruelty here, but there are many amazing charities
who deal with this head on, and do a lot of work in improving lives for animals!

Still, there are many selfish people in this world who choose to do nothing - I also have a feeling, from reading some of the poems on 'Cosmo', that there is a lot of self interest - tragic really, but I guess this is down to the rise of the me, me, me culture!

I wish you and your wife and kitties a Happy Christmas and best wishes for the New year.

Bless you Larry
Lyn
