Without Chains
Dark crimson dries
Tears for false smiles
Freedom yearned for
Yet, the door is open
Why don't you walk through?
---------------------------------
Trapped without chains
A darkened hut,
This is your bedroom
(A kennel in the yard
not fit for a dog)
----------------------------------
How do you like it?
You’ll get used to the cold
Smile you ungrateful child
I am your mistress
No existence without me
---------------------------------
Care for my children
(But don't get too close)
I am kind
(as long as you comply)
The only one who cares
Now go wash the floor!
--------------------------------
*So silently nod*
Don't forget the smile dear

You're playing with perspective again!
It would've been so easy to have shown us the wailing torment within the mind of the young girl newly enslaved in domestic servitude. Instead, you give us the cold, cruel words of her new mistress (and the parenthetical commentary lends the whole a menacing undertone).
The short, clipped lines stab at the heart of the reader and perfectly convey the inherent cruelty of the scenario. {And the image you chose is strikingly apt!}
Magnificent!

Hi sweetheart, I have been making a conscious effort to try and look as things from a different angle (in life as well as poetry) it interests me why people do the things they do and this film I just found harrowing.
thank you for your constant support....and looking forward to seeing your face in the flesh in 13 hours ( not that I'm counting down) hahaha
All my love

Hey LORNA!!..... so glad I caught this!! (been so busy working on music lately)...... the line that keeps ringing in my head ~ 'Smile you ungrateful child, I am your mistress..' sends my thoughts reeling!! I grew up with a white mom and black dad so much of this struck deep chords for me!!....I know I was no slave but I did feel its far reaching ramifications!!.....A FANTASTIC piece of poetry and a bright light shining on insanely powerful subject matter!!.....HAD to PIN this brilliant effort!!...... Love and Hugs!!......T xo ?✳✴☀♥
Hi Tony, Thank you always have such positive feedback. I quite enjoyed awareness poetry, I think I often overlook the plight of others in the more self indulgent aspects of my work.
Thank you for your comment, I'm glad you like this one..Hope your music is coming on well, you should post a link to it
