Daisy

Daisy

A sequence from the story I am writing, about a girl named Daisy Renton, who has a stronger influence than she thinks: see previous chapter on my page so there is no spoilers.

Daisy was flying. She could touch the clouds, just a little bit higher and she could stroke the white fluffy balls in the tropic blue sky. But she plummeted again to the sight of her smiling mother standing in front of her. Another jolt from behind her and she was a rocket heading to space. Her tummy flipped and spun twice or more in motion and a high trickle of laughter escaped her lungs. Daisy’s father behind her chuckled retrospectively, as soon as she swung backwards again, Liam pushed her moderately on the swing. He looked over to Melissa, she looked back and they fell about laughing. A joyful and overwhelming emotion mounted over them.

Daisy was excited by her parent’s sudden change in character and giggled even more. Looking around she realised she was slowing and the jolt behind her had stopped. She looked down and realised how high she actually was. She saw the ground zoom closer to her feet and she squealed, causing her to flinch and topple backwards off the swing, landing awkwardly on her bottom.

An eruption of snot and tears oozed out her face. You’d think she’d scream. But her mouth just hung wide open with no sound flowing out. It just bubbled up inside her trying to find an exit. The swing almost hit her in the head coming back but Liam and Melissa rushed over to her, Liam stopped the swing to then pick her up and stroke her hair, trying to calm her down.

“Sssh, Ssh, shh. It’s all right flower. It’s just a little fall.” Liam soothed, although welling up in the process, he hates seeing his little girl cry.

“You should have watched over her Mel.” He snapped, walking around in a circle still trying to relax Daisy, who still had not made a sound.

“Daisy breathe sweetheart.” Melissa urged. Daisy did as she asked, she deeply inhaled and let out a long whimper, innocently wiping tears off her cheeks.

“Me watch over her? You could of easily done the same Liam.” For no reason tears rolled out her eyes, “Poor little Daisy, mummy’s upset now.”

“Oh, for gods sake, not you as well. You’ll upset her even more if you cry!” He choked, almost shedding a tear. Why couldn’t he control himself? ‘Man up’ echoed through his skull, but it did not sink in. He was starting to wonder if he’s been taking oestrogen pills for the last 4 years, as it has been an emotional roller coaster having a child.

A mother and her two children walked past noticing Daisy’s current state, the two little girls stopped in there tracks being nosey and Daisy looked over to them with her big and wet green eyes and upside down smile, whimpered a little more then buried her face into her daddy’s neck. The two little girls who wore matching pink dresses with ruffles on the rim of the dress and their sandy brown hair scrunched up in a ponytail both burst out in tears. One was screaming and stomping her feet wanting Mummy to pick her up, while the other sat on the ground loudly crying. Melissa and Liam both turned around to the commotion that was happening behind them. They watched as the mother struggled to figure out how to manage two upset children in a public park, she muttered words to them, hugged them both at the same time, nothing worked. Except herself getting worked up, her cheeks blushed red and she began to sweat.

Liam sat on the swing holding Daisy on his lap while Melissa went to help the lady with her handbag. Liam wondered why the two girls began to cry. Obviously it’s only natural for children to follow the emotion of one another, but that usually happens with a sibling or friend. He looked into Daisy’s beautiful green eyes; Daisy held his stare slowly calming down to a stop. He looked back and forth at the two girls and her daughter and almost exactly at the same time, they stopped fussing and appeared relaxed again as the time Daisy did. Their mother just huffed and made them carry on walking. He looked back at Daisy who was smiling at her Daddy who she loved. He smiled back.

“You’re very special aren’t you.” He whispered. Gently wiping the tears off her face.

Melissa rushed up to Liam holding her mobile phone to her chest and said,

”Liam, it’s the Cambridge people about Daisy and her results, can you speak to them?” She explained. Liam looked oddly at her but accepted the phone.

“Hello, Liam speaking.”

“Afternoon it’s Doctor Nigel Hopkins at the Mettwood Research Clinic for Pheromones, I have some very interesting news about your daughter. Could you and your family come up for a visit?”
