A Most Welcome Intruder

A Most Welcome Intruder

Night after Night,
When I'm fast asleep,
No matter the topic,
Into my mind you seep.
The flash of your smile,
the sound of your voice,
Every once in a while,
Do I have a choice.
No, with me you wipe the floor,
I smile when you come a-calling,
and gladly hold the door.
A song on the wind,
a trill in the air,
a sweet ray of sunshine,
across your blonde hair.
If my mind is a lock,
then you have the key,
nowhere to run,
from someone so near to me,
Someone I feel,
even miles away,
To love, not to hold,
though I see you each day.
If not in the sunlight,
than by the moon,
I hold you tight,
safe in my arms,
Until the break of night.
And even in the morning,
you're fresh on my mind,
a smile and a song,
I can't leave behind.
I love you, and no more,
O what joyful problems you find,
when your love throws open the door...
A most welcome intruder closes it behind
