And So I Grew

i was the flower that you decided to pickÂ
amongst all of the other flowersÂ
in the fieldÂ
you ripped me out of the groundÂ
and examined me from my roots
to my petals
you took me to your homeÂ
and promised to take good care of me
you bought me a pretty potÂ
then put me on your window sill  close to the sunshine
one day you forgot to water meÂ
and then the next day and the nextÂ
you decided rather than giving meÂ
the nutrients i needed to growÂ
that letting me drought would be much easierÂ
once you saw me withering
you threw me out, like one of your cigarette butts
and even though my leaves were all dried up
and there was no strength in me
to hold my petals togetherÂ
i dug myself back into the soil
and i grew once againÂ
now every morningÂ
you stare out your windowÂ
with a cup of coffee in your handsÂ
as bitter as the dirtÂ
i left in between your teethÂ
you and the sunrise
stare at the bouquet i had becomeÂ
your tongue was burnt by your coffee;
it almost stung as bad as the thought
of your little flowers nectarÂ
in another bees honeycomb
