And So I Grew
i was the flower that you decided to pick
amongst all of the other flowers
in the field
you ripped me out of the ground
and examined me from my roots
to my petals
you took me to your home
and promised to take good care of me
you bought me a pretty pot
then put me on your window sill close to the sunshine
one day you forgot to water me
and then the next day and the next
you decided rather than giving me
the nutrients i needed to grow
that letting me drought would be much easier
once you saw me withering
you threw me out, like one of your cigarette butts
and even though my leaves were all dried up
and there was no strength in me
to hold my petals together
i dug myself back into the soil
and i grew once again
now every morning
you stare out your window
with a cup of coffee in your hands
as bitter as the dirt
i left in between your teeth
you and the sunrise
stare at the bouquet i had become
your tongue was burnt by your coffee;
it almost stung as bad as the thought
of your little flowers nectar
in another bees honeycomb
