He fought injustice

With pen and paper

In poetic verse

His poems struck fear in anti-Semites

Later his works would become instrumental

In melting the iron curtain

And turning the Berlin Wall into rubble

In this time

Of anti-democracy

And alternative facts

Let’s keep the memory

Of Yevgeny Yevtushenko alive

We as poets have a duty

To fight the neo-fascist movement

In the spirit of Yevtushenko
