Broken

Broken

The air attacked my very lungs
Each breath a painful struggle
My eyelids felt so weighted down
My thoughts were all a muddle

I knew this was not normal
I knew I had to fight
But to lay there without moving
Just felt so good and right

I did not have to make a sound
I could live without a fear
The World would still continue
I could drown within my tears

I could just watch from a distance
Which I guess was quite ironic
For the girl who loved humanity
Was now laying, catatonic

I do not know what broke me
I just knew I was there
The final rip right through my heart
Removed my will to care

I was lost inside my own head
I couldn’t see the path
To find the joy in life again
To giggle and to laugh

But slowly feelings stirred within
My eyes could start to see
The humanity I rejected
Was standing there with me

And as the light returned to me
My heart found a new beat
I rejoined the people that I loved
For certain, no mean feat
