Poem -

Despot

In new land of holy grail
Set a traveller made to fail
King of dust and god of mercy
Made blatantly foolish with hypocrisy

Of dream and vision
Of fight and submission
Comes a sense of quarrel
With which a damaged aural
‘Come forth’ he said
With the might of a knight resting in his head
‘I show you a world’, ‘a sky like diamonds’
‘Grass tall where morale flowers’
We succumbed, green with envy
Pride and pauper in a frenzy

But might much like fear, is all in our mind
And power we think is not the power we find
For that traveller stood and commanded
But then soon after demanded
Golden years and states of fear
Can only hold a crown for a tear
Once it’s fallen down a cheek
It is forgotten and never spared a peak

Tyrants however never rule long
For control is never life long
The people stood
Envious hearts here to do good
Fight the monarch
Of their mark

Like all good things
It must end
Good morals take their bend
Mercy in its slings
Like the traveller
Recalled to a caviler

For in this new land of holy grail
Led a traveller buried after fail
King of dust and god of mercy
Died a man of controversy.
