Empty Eyes

I have seen the valleys, the mountains, the forests, the rivers running
Though I can still capture it, in my mind, and even in my heart, it hurts
My eyes now, are empty, nothing but memories, and what I have seen, has left me
I shall never be the same man, nor the same kind, though I am proud of my heritage
My way of life, it was nothing more than great, nothing less than imperfect
I will hunt the sky, and I shall dream in my native world, the never ending peace
Shall enter our womb, shall thrive upon the mountains, and rise unto the unlimited sky
Where my Cherokee traditions, never leave my side, though my eyes are no longer full
They look toward the pastures, of another generation, another living earth, and I feel young
At heart, knowing that my grandchildren will know they were taught to be brave
And to follow in the wolves path, the hunt for a new day, and the stars have no limits
Empty eyes, shall one day be filled with a new beginning, then I shall go to my grave
With restful eyes

Nancy, truly one can never run out of good things to say about this one, man you are one soulful and polished poet, simply awesome write; I almost feel like I'm overstating the obvious by saying that...your coupled lines are sweet; felt a contrast and a unity at the same time; the contrast being how the narrative sees the present and what he used to see in the past, and the unity is how the spirit of the past still exists in the present; not sure how accurate that interpretation is but I did feel that, it matters not though, this write is layer with a spirit and extends; there is lots to take in....it reads very beautiful, seriously good my friend, you better be writing a book; if you haven't yet...cheersÂ
