Poem -

Goodbye

Goodbye

He lay in loudest silence
The light outside was dim
In transience this moment
Was a moment unto him

The lamp-post seemed so distant
The road it navigated – far
Reaching to the end –
He stretched his arm out
There you are

He’d travelled quite a distance
His son was by his side
Thoughts of reminiscence
He couldn’t wait to find

A lasting laugh would lure
And lead a languid cry
As he lay there in wonder
‘twas time to say;
‘Goodbye’.

Dedicated to James McKenzie, with condolence for the loss of his father.
