Poem -

Green Man

Green Man

Wonderland has fallen
From riches to rags
The green man cries
As the trees are cut down.

"They weren't meant for money
But for oxygen", he complains
With every fallen leaf
He can feel the pain.

Somewhere in the wilderness
His love got lost
His hope was dead,
dead as a doe.

Like the deer they would leap
Through the bushes for hours
She went wondering off
Whilst picking the flowers.

Then the foreigner came along
He saw the land
To build it into a city, he planned.
The poor green man was at a loss
as he watched the natural world be tossed
Into the chipper of modern industrial life.
The trees became money and peace became strife.

He watched as they hunted and a piece of him died
Every tree cut down killed him a little inside
Until smoke filled his lungs
Due to pollution and smog
He would cough all the time
like his lungs were being flogged.
Until one night he looked up to the stars above
And saw someone familiar
And her name was love
She floated on down
To take him away
To a new heaven she'd created
And there they would stay.
