Hurt The Boy

Red stains the air
As small lungs gasp
for love to care
With eyes that bite
and a shallow tongue
To smite a mind
So soft...so young
Strung into life’s disarray
Bludgeoned with the darkest day
A world of colour fades to grey
The mockingbird has flown
With swollen eyes
This heart shall rise
Now bitter to the bone
Like a stone falls
The soul mauls for light
But loses grip
loses sight
For no one dares to speak his fear
Nor care enough to interfere
And so his fate is met...
In grievous tones
The sun has set
Devoid of any joy
The blood of life
So roughly fed
The day they hurt the boy

Such a stark image Gwen, written with such heart and compassion. Touched the bones of me...❤
Gets me worked up writing about it. It’s a difficult subject to stomach but one that should be talked about. Thanks my friend 💗 xx
Well you do it so well Gwen...your writing is powerful xxx
Exceptional pen Gwen
Thanks so very much Poetessdarkly 🌸
Awesome poem
Thanks my friend 🌻
OMG!!....this is SOOO very hauntingly poetic.....it's in the subtlety that carries this into the truly poetic realms......the final line itself is STUNNING even though it is expected....it's in that poetic subtlety that it screams out to the world!!.....It delivers so softly the awful truth of the heart of its intent....like a person being hugged and stabbed at the same time......an incredible decision is made here....the decision to wrap such awful subject matter in the clothing of the beauty of poetry.....that decision had to have been difficult for the author.......and wow!!....it is accomplished with great elegance through the pen of a truly graceful soul........PINNED!!......my goodness G!!......how does it feel having risen to the challenge and then exceeding all expectation!!??....you.....dear soul....are a VERY gifted writer!!......Brava!! Bravissimo!!.....LOVE & ROCKETS!!.....T xo : )
Tony, what can I say? You have been so very generous with your words for this poem. I am so pleased that you found so much in this write. Yes it was a difficult subject to pen. But one that I felt had to happen, once I had received the title. I can’t thank you enough for the support and faith you relentlessly show towards my writing. I spent many years doubting my ability for the written word. Cosmo has been a great place to help me find my confidence. You have contributed greatly to that. Thank you lovely x never stop being you :) x
wow Gwen! another masterful write from a master writer! and brings out of darkness into the light so all can be witness to man's inhumanity to man and man;s inhumanity to animal! you take part with such wonderful empathy in changing the world that is so lacking! BRAVO!.................Jim
Jim, what would Cosmo do without your beautiful mind and wonderful words of encouragement. You have an endless faith that shines for humanity. It is a wonderful thing to behold in someone. I am thrilled to know of your existence and thank you for leaving such precious words here with this poem
Your good friend

Sadly & ever so, I might just add, this entire page is simply poemed to perfection ..
A tragic & most moving account of what is tragically not a rare thing today, or for that matter ever & certainly one that I find myself encountering on an all too frequent basis, albeit peripherally & from a professional perspective ..
Oh' and must confess, I often find it hard to remain objective when involved primarily with the perpetrators as opposed to their child victims ..
I could never be a social worker, that's for sure .. You write so hauntingly well on one of the most emotionally charged of topics and I admire the way you have approached it here ......................... Neville x
Gosh Neville, you are an incredible human my friend. I read this comment in awe of what you must do so often for those so vulnerable. I can’t imagine how hard that must be to face every day. It takes someone with a truly special heart...you Neville have such a special heart. I would probably be in tears every day. You are right of course. It isn’t an easy subject to write about. But poetry isn’t or shouldn’t be just flowers and rainbows eh... well I think it has a place to encapsulate every aspect of life and human emotion. I do hope I did this subject justice. Your words most definitely have to be the most valued. Given your daily battles in this field. So thank you for your kindness and supportive comment. I am so grateful to know you exist
your admiring friend
Gwen
:) xx
You are as always, more than welcome Gwen .. I am but what I am .. but please, believe me when I say that I certainly do not deserve the kind of praise you have just bestowed upon me here .. Having said that, I'm not a bad guy either :)
Funny you should also write - But poetry isn’t or shouldn’t be just flowers and rainbows eh... because, that is pretty much a direct quote from the rear cover notes of my latest anthology Cotton Girls & Paper Chains .. now unless you have already acquired a copy, that is pretty spooky eh ... x
Yikes now that is spooky lol...I left another review for you today my friend. For your wonderful Turquoise and other shades of blue. I am getting them up 😉 Planning on purchasing your latest and no doubt greatest edition to poetry. Your books are an absolute pleasure to read and savour my friend x
Blimey, yes it is spooky .. & I can not thank you enough Gwen .. I am really grateful to you x
