Poem -

I Know Not What Tomorrow Brings

I Know Not What Tomorrow Brings

I know not what tomorrow brings,
Which way the cards of fate will fall;
I see little in the Tarot's hand
And nothing in a crystal ball.
If only I could see tomorrow
And all the days that lie ahead
Just to see what is a coming
Instead of tending wounds that bled.
I know not what disaster looms
Or what happiness there unfolds,
How can I know the numbers
On the dice as yet unrolled?
And what of my heart's true desire?
And what of faith and hopes and dreams?
These are surely my strongest allies
When I know not what tomorrow brings.

If only โ€ฆโ€ฆ. Superb poetry as always, very thought provoking and relatable. I specifically liked the flow of:
โ€ย I know not what disaster looms
Or even what happiness unfolds,
How can I know the numbers
On the dice as yet unrolled?โ€œ

The unknown can feel a rocky ride. I felt a heavy sadness throughout this. The trials of the past causing anxiety towards the future. Acknowledging how out of control it can feel, as we wish we could poke an insightful gaze into the future. To be prepared for any white knuckle ride. Nicely rhyming throughout, and I loved how you wrapped it up with that last line. For some reason it made me think of the last line in Gone With The Wind โ€œAfter all, tomorrow is another dayโ€

Very poetic ending to a good pieceย

Hi Gwen, If only we did know what the future has in store for us. But then again... At least not knowing gives a "tomorrow " that brand new feeling. Thanks so much for reading and leaving your thoughts. I appreciate your support and I am so sorry for the delay in responding ๐Ÿ™‚ x

Hi Gwen, yes still writing. I have 3 books on the go at the moment and I really need to concentrate on one at a time. So, I am choosing to concentrate on the sequel to my first book. I need to work harder though. Thanks for asking. I hope you are keeping well

Wow Tina another masterpiece! If only...felt familiar to me cos it's a title of a poem in my book. I read your words and the unknown is what can terrify us, question us and no can see the future. So it's such a powerful piece of philosophical writing that I love. Just epic. Your fan Px

Oh, how lovely this lyrical poem is!

Favorite lines: All of them!

I know not what tomorrow brings,
Which way the cards of fate will fall

Wouldnโ€™t it be great if we could all see what is about to happen in our lives in the future, vs. when tragedy occurs on a flash of lightening.

Excellent work on the poem.

Hi Kat, thank you so much for reading and leaving feedback it is very much appreciated. It is always good to know what fellow poets think. I am really happy you like the poem.ย

You know, I am often saying, "If only I knew then what I know now."ย  But life is a journey and one that's a magical mystery tour.

Thankyou again ๐Ÿ˜Šย

Here we are tossed about by an unseen hand ( with a purpose?) Or ...an indifferent wind with no thought at all. Our minds as humans are wired to learn lessons but i think as humans we also get weary. We should brave the future with thankfulness and joy because we know we have little time and yet the very lessons that teach us this are also the ones that eventually make us indifferent and deadened to joys which can be snatched away at any moment. Personally I understand the lesson but I don't like the school lol. Now to your actually words which when you post Tina are always worth waiting for. You have a wisdom which shines in all your work regardless of perspective or topic. And here..in this work which speaks of the whole nature of breath which is impossible to understand so enjoy each small moment and stop worrying away at the fabric of an unfathomable universe...I take comfort.

"I know not what the future holds
I know not what disaster looms,
Or even what happiness unfolds
How can I know the numbers
As the dice has yet unrolled"

Your work is unique and always so beautifullyย  soulful...pinned โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

I think it is an indifferent wind Marion. Well, that is the thought I am leaning towards anyway. Once upon a time I believed in a larger than life, kind, benevolent god. Here for us all. Our father who cared about us and was always around for us. Not now though. Too much has happened, too many good people taken far to young. Too many people suffering pain. Bad people having only good things happen to them and good people never getting a break.ย  Now I believe in the indifferent wind or lots of gods and spirits who are up to all sorts and who are not necessarily kind. I often wish I had a crystal ball so I could see the future. But when I think more about it I think not knowing is, perhaps, the best way. Or is it? Ohhh.... I dont know.ย  The thing is, the future is fluid, it is not set. Our own and other people's. The future depends on what we do at any given time. Or what is done to us. Hmmm, the future depends on choices (for the most part). For every action there is an opposite and equal reaction...and that is what decides the future. So, the future cannot be read. Even tarot cards do not tell of a definite future. They can only predict things if you carry on along the same path so to speak.ย  Sometimes it would be nice to know. I know for myself, in certain situations I wouldve behaved differently had I known then what I know now.

Thankyou so very much for reading and leaving your amazing in depth comment. You are a star! Thank you xx

ย a wonderfully rhythmic inventive poem. I'd love to know each step I should take, or to have the courage or will to take them, but I'm grateful i cannot know the future, good or bad. hearts true desire, faith, hopes and dreams... wow, I'll remember those lines. without those things, our future cannot be ours. One thing I do know about the future, it has has more beautiful poems written by you, in store for all of us.

I think it all boils down to hope and dreams Mark. We cannot know the future but we can hope and we can dream. But it would be pretty handy to know what lies in store for us sometimes wouldn't it?

Thank you so much for reading and for leaving your thoughts on this piece. Very much appreciated and I will return the favour.ย
