Poem -

I'm me and you are you

I'm me and you are you

I used to be a sponge
Absorbing people's woes
Full to the brim of worry
From my head down to my toes
I used to be cripple
No longer able to walk
Dump your baggage on my shoulders
Every time you talk
I used to be a target
Darts thrown at my good will
Looking like a pin cushion
Trying to smile until
I blocked up all the holes
Protecting what's inside
That's when I discovered that my essence
Had shrivelled up and died
I had to find myself again
Put up a no entry sign
No one can take a piece of me
Til I retrieve what once was mine
I sealed up the vulnerability
I built my tower tall
I protected my sanity
By putting up a wall
And now that I am better
The chinks of light shine through
Share your problems but please remember
I'm me, and you are you
