June

June

I sat beside the crashing sea,
Building my sandy fortified creation,
While she sat right there by me,
Lost in imagination.

She dipped her brush into the Sea,
and from it drew color and light,
Onto paper she twirled with glee,
and the product was a sight.

A painting of the ocean,
crafted of salt and spray,
lifelike, as if in motion,
on one beautiful June day.

She was there napping, laying down,
I dumped water on her head.
Had I not leapt from the ground,
I might have been quite dead.

But she simply smiled with malignant joy,
And brought the curtain wall low,
She hit my head with the flimsy beach toy,
and said "I told you so"

The reason that I love her goes like this,
the moment her rage had faded,
She let me lean in for a kiss,
just as I'd anticipated.

She knows I'm big and burly,
But a 5-year old from the start,
So she stopped acting so surly,
And put her head against my heart.
