One for the road

The room is spinning round and round

I try to focus on the ground

My legs, they just refuse to walk

I’m trying but I cannot talk

People shake their heads and disapprove

It must be late, but I cannot move

I am sure I only had two shorts

I don’t know why I’m ‘out of sorts’

Home is calling but what’s my address

The details of which you cannot guess

I head for a taxi but where am I going

Cab driver can’t take me without him knowing

Best thing for me is to just continue

Staggering one step forward, two back down the avenue

Walking for hours but I’ve not got anywhere

I lie on the bench as by now, I don’t care

Next thing I know the sun is shining brightly

I’m speeding down the motorway holding on tightly

To the bench I crawled onto in my drunken state

Which I did not know was lying in wait

To be delivered to a customer the very next day

I’d crawled under and was hidden by the cover of the load
