Red Glow

Red Glow

They rest in the dirt, completely spent,
No one prepares you for this event,
People rely on you to push through pain,
The fires are coming and must be tamed.

The harrowing sight of flames so tall,
People with hoses seem really small,
With guts of gold and nerves of steel,
Exhausted but determined is what they feel.

They fight with a purpose, they fight with grit,
Even though most of these fires are deliberately lit,
Exhausted and tired they battle on through,
They do the job that not just anyone can do.

Hats off to firies, who put their lives on the line,
Who battle the blazes, both your house and mine,
Fighting an enemy who does not discriminate,
Starting early in the morning, and working so late.
