Roses For Elise

Roses For Elise

You always wanted roses, to cover a canopy bed,
But wires, electrodes and IV's cover you instead.
You'd sing so sweetly such random little things,
The only one I recall, β€œA bell chimes, as angels earn wings"

I miss tinkling laughter that filled this empty hall,
Now bleakness infiltrates, dreading that urgent call.
Chemo deviated rampid along rail-thin arms,
A room overwhelmed with bleeps and unlit alarms.

Caressing a pale cheek, I stroke a shiny head,
You cried so hard when the golden curls were shed.
You'd chase rainbows and butterfly-kissed dreams,
Within imprisoned coma, I can almost hear screams.

You once asked, "Mommy, why do I have to hurt?"
I tried to gentle emotions so words wouldn't come out curt.
"The cancer Elise brings down angels just a bit closer to you,
Breeching darkness, so a little heaven shines through"

The funeral was very lovely, filled with fragrant flowers
I accepted condolences for what seemed like many hours.
But now the mourners left me, I'm finally all alone,
The sounds of silence so sharp it cuts to the very bone.

The distant bells of Saint Peter melodious as it rings,
I know my little angel, has finally earned wings.
On a polished stone, are words I especially chose,
And on her little grave, I bestow an ivory rose.

Hello Poetess...

I would spend many hours in Cemeteries...

Names and Dates always tell a Story...

To see Children's headstones it always put something on my heart and I would try to always show them how sorry I was they were there and not able to live and play like those they hear...

It may sound like a morbid thing but, they were always alone and what a scary thing to die a child...

Great write!

Thank you for sharing...

Hugs...
