Save the Best for Last

As a child I loved to play, skipping rope, jacks, shooting marbles in the grass
My first love was Rick, he was one year older than me, I was shy, but we smiled alot
I was only thirteen, we would play hide and seek, and baseball games in the neighbors yard
Bicycled, blocks away, to the penny candy store, catching grasshoppers, in the day
Lightening bugs in the night, they would twinkle on and off, then we would let them fly free
We shared an ice cream cone one time, and you saved the best for last, just for me
The crunchy part, with the last of the cream in the bottom, it really meant a lot
Now, I just reminisce of the younger days, of you and me, I wonder where you are right now
Maybe, you are thinking the same, who knows, we might catch up, where we left off
I hope you will save the best for last, the best of you for me
