It was the year 1895; Tipperary County, Ireland. Where lived a dressmaker, Bridget Cleary, wife to Michael Cleary. They lived in a humble home on the Irish countryside. One day, Bridget fell ill, her husband had called on the doctor to see what ails her. She was diagnosed with bronchitis. This was very scary for folks; In this era of time, when someone became sick, they believed they were stolen by fairies and replaced by a changeling. It wasn't only a known tale that babies were thieved in the night, but also fertile aged woman. Bridget got sicker, and sicker. With her husbands suspicions and fears growing stronger, he calls for the doctor again. This time, the doctor advised Mr. Cleary, to call for a priest to read her last rights. He said, she didn't have much time left. Michael Cleary called upon the townsfolk for help. They came, they prayed for Bridget's return, they had even held her over the hearths flame to burn the changeling spirit away. They doused her with urine; Her own husband beat her repeatedly, with a burning timber of wood; She was tortured repeatedly. The next day, Michael Cleary stated to the authorities, his wife had disappeared overnight. Later, in time her body was found burnt alive, verified by the coroners report. Michael Cleary, and nine others were charged for the murder of Bridget Cleary. One man was let go, proving his innocence. The other eight men, had reduced charges. Michael Cleary was sentenced to twenty-five years in prison, in which he served fifteen of them, before he was released. Today, there is still a strong hold on some of these folklore beliefs. Be careful of what you believe in, and to what extents you're willing to go for those beliefs. One last thing, be careful of the fae you befriend.
