Surely You Jest

Surely You Jest

This must be a joke
The way you treat people
All the false words you spoke
We the people are created equal
You gotta be kidding me
The way you hurt folks
This is a state of tragedy
And all I hear are jokes
You gotta be joshing us
The people can't take much more
You can't be seriousΒ
What's the real reason we are fighting for
Surely you jest
This is our home
And you play us like chess
We should be free to roam
Are you trying to tickle my funny bone
We should stand together hereΒ
But we are segregated alone
Your laughs bring only fear
Is this all funny to you
We need to band as one
Before all that they undo
Make us unable to have any fun
I know this is a great comedy
And it has all the ups
But it's also a tragedy
The smile just hides the suck
