Sweet Nothing

Sweet Nothing lived for âmorrow
Plenty lived today
And when she saw him walking
Dressed in scarlet â she in gray
Sheâd whisper to the children
And fly above the sky
And flap her wings and shudder
And stay up past bed-time
Sheâd deplore the clouds with rain
So thunder felt distraught
And offer words with wisdom
And loosen what was taut
She was silent when heâd be talking
And forget her parasol
Yet laugh when he was sombre
And ride his carousel
And when his sun was tired
And his avenue deprived
âSweet Nothingâ felt redemption
and âPlentyâ felt contrite
