The House on Palmer Hill

Within the house on Palmer Hill, she longs for love and waits there still.
Thus,ย placed upon each window sill,ย one candle lit,ย to troth, fulfill.
To love a man who sails the seas, craves oceanโs spray, her smazy breeze
is dangerous, for she believes, no greater love has he, than she.
ย
Thus, every time a whippoorwill alights upon yon windowsill
the songs they sing usurp her will, within the house on Palmer Hill.
And thoโ his love for her is strong, her sailorโs off where he belongs.
Amidst the oceans tempests vast, she prays heโll soon come home at last.
ย
Yet lurking far โneath fathoms deep, sly sirens lie in wait to keep
the souls of men whose wayward wrath hasย led themย to their watโry path.
Back home upon slabbed window sill, within the house on Palmer Hill,
a sad song sounds, one whippoorwill, fortells the doom of sirenโs kill.
She weeps, she knows the omen well, the mournful song, her loveโs death knell.
ย
Their brigantine to rocks was luredโwhere not one single soul endured,
as water rushed to flood the hull,ย sly sirens came to claim them all.
And thoโ that whippoorwillย still sings, no songs of joy, no hope it brings--
With candles snuffed, she waits there stillโฆ within the house on Palmer Hill.
